Irregular weather patterns, rising water levels, and increasing temperatures are some of the effects of climate change.

Singapore has been heating up alarmingly as we carelessly burn fossil fuels and practice non-sustainable habits.

To reverse the effects of climate change, the Singapore Government introduced the Singapore Green Plan 2030, which focuses on implementing practical and sustainable practices that would aid in reversing the harmful effects on the Earth.

Ultimately, the Singapore Green Plan 2030 aims to hit net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Some targets of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 include quadrupling solar energy deployment, reducing waste sent to landfills by 30 per cent, and making all newly registered cars cleaner-energy models.

As the government takes steps to ensure the best chance of reversing the harm done to the Earth, companies and citizens are slowly following in the government’s footsteps and contributing to the initiative.

Tan Pheck Kin, 58, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chuan Seng Leong (CSL), a distribution service company in Singapore.

She ensures that her company does its part to be sustainable by leading by example. She advocates for the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and hopes more people will follow in their footsteps.

“It’s good that the Government is taking these steps towards a more sustainable Singapore. Everyone should do their part to save the Earth, big or small.”

Pheck Kin uses electric vehicles to distribute goods across Singapore.

Cheong Fu Sheng, 25, is also an individual who is passionate about doing whatever he can to impact the environment positively.

He acknowledged the need for more education on environmental issues, saying, “People should read up more about what climate change is and how we can do our part, even as young adults.”

Besides noting the importance of environmental awareness, Fu Sheng said, “I think the best place to try to practice environmentally-friendly habits would be where you spend the most time.”

With everyone’s cooperation, we can move towards a greener country and improve our home for future generations, step by step.
